Meet Caroline Styne, Master Among the Madness

If we had a daughter, we’d want her to be just like Suzanne Goin, an L.A. local who never left her city behind and a James Beard-winning chef committed to sustainability, charity, and good food. Standing alongside Goin through her rise to prominence has been Caroline Styne, a managing partner in three of the chef’s five restaurants (AOC, Tavern, Lucques). On February 15th at Santa Monica’s Pottery Barn, Styne, a master sommelier and founder of her own line of healthy tortilla chips, will speak about her rise to the top alongside two other inspiring women considered “masters” in their various fields. The L.A. Master Event, hosted by Smarty and titled “Master Among the Madness: Becoming The Best Among the Competitive Rest,” will feature a three-hour panel with Styne, endurance swimmer Diana Nyad (whose efforts to swim to Catalina in a team were covered recently by L.A. Weekly), and Lulu Fabrics founder Lulu DeKwiatkowski, who will all relate their personal success stories and the challenges involved along the way. February 15th, 6:00-9:00 P.M., 1415 4th St. Santa Monica. $35 tickets available online.
