The saga continues: Stating that Taste of Chicago will “always be free,” Mayor Daley came out against the one and only proposal to privatize the major city event. The bidder, Celebrate Chicago, believes it has to charge the entrance fee due to the high costs, which has devoured $700 million of the city’s budget over the past three years. According to the Sun Times, Mayor Daley claimed that the high costs came about because the festival had “strayed from its original mission of serving up Chicago food,” and had “veered into the live music and big name acts.” [Sun Times]
