Well, That Was Fast: Holly’s Comedy Club Shutters After Only Six Weeks

As of today, Holly’s Comedy Club will be closing, setting a record for lickety split shuttering for 2010 — albeit not for a stand-alone restaurant but a lounge/comedy club/restaurant. The club opened in early November, hoping to add a new comedy venue to the city’s laugh scene, but apparently business must not have been strong. All of the scheduled comics and events, including a New Year’s Eve event with comedian Mark Curry, have been canceled. A PR source tells Grub Street that the lease-holder on the mezzanine level at 1000 Van Ness, Kjell Qvale (who also owns British Motor Car Distributors at 901 Van Ness) has new plans for the space that he’ll be unveiling in early 2011, and Holly Horn, for whom the comedy club was named, will not be involved in the new project.
