The Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co., which just racked up another accolade today with its inclusion in USA Today’s “10 great classic American cocktail lounges,” introduced what it’s calling Extra Credit this week. The new program gives drinker the opportunity to not only drink Franklin’s skillfully mixed cocktails, but to learn a little about their origins while sipping them. This week the Franklin is working on “You Come At the King, You Best Not Miss,” a special look at the evolution of the martini. The session includes several variations on the classic cocktail, including The Turf Club, Old Tom gin, Italian vermouth and Angostura bitters, Martinez, Italian vermouth, Old Tom gin, Maraschino and Jerry Thomas bitters, The Fourth Degree, Plymouth gin, French vermouth and absinthe, and Dry Martini, Beefeater gin, French vermouth and orange bitters. Each extra credit cocktail costs $9. Upcoming Extra Credit programs include Yuletide Traditionals: Nogs, Tom and Jerry’s etc and Physician, Heal Thyself: Hot Drinks, Skins and Toddies.
