Serious Eats has a fun slideshow featuring eight cities and the dishes they’re not known for … but should be. They make a case for Boston and Sichuan food. Just in time to save us from a gloopy-kung-pao-chicken-n-oily-egg-roll nightmare before Christmas!
These fiery Sichuan spots are superlative, according to the Serious Eaters. In Boston, Chinatown’s New Shanghai gets a nod; Zoe’s in Cambridge is another worthy destination (despite the drab exterior). And for true “no holds barred” dining, duck into Chilli Garden in Medford for the Aromatic Pork Ribs with Bamboo Shoots. Ambitious diners not deterred by pesky things like traffic would do well to trek to Malden, where Fuloon makes a mean Ma-Po Tofu.
And the best Sichuan dish in all the land? Why, the Oxtail and Tripe with Roasted Chili Vinaigrette from Sichuan Garden II in Brookline. Thank god they’re opening new branches!
The list calls out many of our favorites. Any misses? Tewksbury’s Top Garden? Arlington’s new Little Q?
