In sad news, Bruce Nichols, one of Philly Beer Week’s co-founders and former partner in HeadHouse, passed away on Monday after a short battle against leukemia, fellow Beer Week founder Tom Peters posted on Monk’s website. As the president and owner of Museum Catering, Nichols booked late great beer writer Michael Jackson to the University of Pennsylvania’s Museum of Archeology and Anthropology for a Book and the Cook event back in 1991, which is widely regarded as the spark that ignited Philly’s thriving beer culture. “Bruce really helped push the boundaries of beer culture in Philadelphia,” Peters wrote in his post. “We are all thankful and grateful to all that Bruce has done for us.” [Monk’s]
