One good thing about winter’s approach is, it provides a good excuse to drink hot booze. Tonight Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. begins its second session of Extra Credit, the tipsy learning program that we told you about last week that walks you through the history and tradition of cocktails while you drink them. Conveniently enough — as if these guys have control over the weather — tonight’s round, entitled “Physician, Heal Thyself,” focuses on toddies, grog and other wintry warmers designed to rejuvenate while chasing away the chills. “This menu will start with a very traditional toddy, then a “skin,” which is really just a toddy with lemon peel or skin, and last will be a grog,” the Franklin’s Colin Shearn told Grub Street. “The grog is definitely the most “Franklined” of the bunch. Split rum base, a more modern sweetener, tea, weird bitters etc.” Click through to see the new Extra Credit menu.
The “Physician, Heal Thyself” Extra credit menu is available 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this week and next.
