
After the closure of Gabriel Morales’s Downtown restaurant Provecho, we’d hoped that L.A. would retain the talented toque at another local kitchen. But the chef has shown up in San Diego instead, serving as an executive chef at Loews Coronado Bay Resort Hotel since October. Veering away from his respected modern Mexican, Morales is currently preparing California coastal cuisine at the property’s Market Cafe, just two pleasant hours of driving from Downtown, Morales-maniacs. UPDATE: Morales has been made executive chef at the hotel.
