Just as we start waving our arms and screaming about a rise in bakeries, it comes out that we’re losing one in Santa Monica. Elizabeth Goel’s Bite Bar and Bakery closed yesterday and will remain shuttered through January 10th. After promising “a new format,” Goel states on Bite’s Facebook page that “In short, our days as a restaurant have come to a pause and we will be refocusing on special events, event planning, private events, classes and catering.” Facebook supporters are bemoaning the loss of this cute neighborhood bakery, while one Chowhounder relates that the concept changed too often, keeping Bite from having a true identity. Another simply writes, “It was dark and gloomy.” But don’t those words describe just about everything right now on our sixth straight day of rain?
