Yesterday it was all about Amanda Hesser and the gargantuan new tome she’s responsible for, The Essential New York Times Cookbook. The book spans 150 years, covering 1,400 of the most notable recipes published by the paper since it started covering food in the 1850s, and it serves as a sort of addendum/revision to the original New York Times Cookbook written by Craig Claiborne and first published in 1961. And yesterday, SF Food Wars threw a party for her, billed as “The Ultimate Potluck Cocktail Brunch,” which featured a slew of local chefs serving up dishes either straight out of the book, or adapted from one of its pages.
