Simple Things Sandwich & Pie Shop, which we took an early look at last week, opened its doors yesterday on Third Street. Even with pie being the new black and all, the throwback fifties space would fit nicely into Mayberry, all cutesy and classic Americana steeped in the smells of sweet and savory pies. These goods come in mini, medium, and traditional sizes, with flavors such as strawberry shortcake, blueberry, and Missouri mud baked daily by Food & Wine-approved Carrie Cusack, as well as a weekly schedule for specialties like salted caramel and banoffee, among many more. What else makes the menu?
Owners Andy Paxson and Ryan Handel are also supplying sandwiches, salads, pot pies, and soups here, with local ingredients and house-prepared meats and sauces for selections like prime rib with jammy onions and horseradish cream, albacore with artichoke hearts and Dijon vinaigrette, and weekend breakfasts of marscapone-filled French toast and a grilled peanut butter and jelly with seasonal jam and bananas. Check out the full menu below and don’t hesitate to live off $2.50 mini-pies for a few days.
