Let’s clear this up right now: Rudy’s Bar & Grille—which just opened in the Loop—has nothing to do with Rudy’s Bar & Grill in New York. “Absolutely not!” we were told when we called early this morning. Apparently we weren’t the first people to ask. First off, there is that “e” at the end of the name, and they won’t be dishing out hot dogs for free like the New York Rudy’s does (honestly!). In fact, this new hamburger joint is about as Chicago as it gets. It’s being run by Rudy Malnati Jr., who also founded the classic deep dish pizza joint next door, Pizano’s. So what will be there?

This is a burger joint, with thirteen different variations. Those include the Acorn on Oak (green peppers, diced onion, garlic, black pepper), Chili Cheddar (cheese, chili, jalapeno, onions, and sour cream), and a Plain Jane (just guess). You’ll also be able to find eight different chicken sandwiches, and three different sausages. It’s less of a lovable gin joint with a large hog statue out front, and more of a solid lunch spot. So while this might not be the best place for a midday drink, hopefully it will help feed the hungry hoards at nearby Millennium Park.
