O.P. Cafe on Santa Monica’s Ocean Park Blvd. only looks closed these days. The cafe recently began an exterior construction to replace its outer walls with wood and create a veranda outside. Unfortunately, that old bugaboo bureaucracy reared its head soon after the business stripped away most of its facade. After being told the proper permits are not in place, the business is now idling with an exterior that looks half-demolished. A manager shares her concerns that customers will be turned away, thinking the business is closed. More frustrating for her, it will be weeks, and hopefully not months, before construction will be allowed to continue, leaving O.P. Cafe in a temporary state of disarray.
