A statement from owners James Gersten and Derek Sanders sheds light on La Esquina’s project in the old Relish space. We’re told that it won’t necessarily be a “Mexican beer garden,” and a concept is still being developed for a spring 2011 opening. Oh, and these guys are very psyched to be part of the whole Brooklyn thing. Here’s the good word:

La Esquina is thrilled to be joining the exciting food movement in Brooklyn. The team is currently developing a concept to revamp the former Relish diner, with plans to open in late Spring 2011. The menu will be created by La Esquina’s Executive Chef Akhtar Nawab and will feature La Esquina favorites, but also embrace the farm-to-table philosophy of the Brooklyn epicurean community. La Esquina co-owner Derek Sanders who is leading the project, stated on behalf of himself and his partner James Gersten, “we’re very excited to become part of the Williamsburg community and look forward to bringing La Esquina’s style to a fresh dining concept for Brooklyn residents.”
