First they broke with Herrell’s Ice Cream; now they’re going under completely. Allston Cafe served its last meal on Saturday and hosted a farewell open house on Sunday, the Globe reports. The rough-around-the-edges eatery had been a hangover staple since 1984 and was especially known for its vegan menu options. The owners blame a hike in rent, though we’ve read cyber-rumblings that quality took a dive after the Herrell’s split. Fans shouldn’t fret, though: The Cafe might reopen in a new Allston location come springtime.
