Former Spago on Sunset head chef Lisa Stalvey, more recently the executive chef of Malibu Catering, is opening a burger joint on Ocean Park with surfer Michael Anapol, whose visage is probably familiar to regulars of Malibu’s Abuelitas. Called Shaka Shack, the small strip mall restaurant has a Tiki vibe and a short selection of casual eats. Construction is mostly complete and a November 20th opening date is hoped for, though official word from the city is being awaited for a green light. Stalvey’s resume includes opening Puck’s Ma Maison and Granita, as well as stints with Roger Verge, time at Schatzi, Beau Rivage, L’Orangerie, and her own Bambu. Here the menu is a short selection of burgers with a Hawaiian kiss. There’s The Kauaiian with dijon sweet Thai chili sauce and organic beef, a hand-formed a quarter-pound “Kauhuna” Kobe with artichoke pesto mayo and gorgonzola, mini “menehunes,” a veggie burger, a chicken burger with Macadamia nut slaw, and krinkled fries with options of white truffle salt and seasoned parmesan, both house-made. Take a look at the space in our slideshow.

Shaka Shack, open soon at 1701 Ocean Park Blvd. Santa Monica.
