Cyrus Possibly Getting Evicted?

Whoa… drama up north this morning as chef Douglas Keane of Cyrus goes to the press with his story of receiving an eviction notice from the new owners of the Les Mars Hotels, despite repeated attempts to pay rent for the restaurant in the last month. The Scoop reports that after new owners David Fink (a restaurateur/hotelier who also owns Cantinentta Pietro in Napa’s Hotel Luca) and billionaire Bill Foley (who also owns Sebastiani and Chalk Hill wineries) took ownership of the property last month, Keane and partner Nick Peyton made repeated attempts to contact them to determine who they should be writing check to, and received no response. Then Friday they received a letter from Fink and Foley, which isn’t an eviction notice per se, but stated that they had not paid rent and “the landlord has elected to declare forfeiture.”

Cyrus just celebrated their five-year anniversary, saw their two Michelin stars renewed, and they still have fifteen years on their lease. Keane is pretty sure this is some funny business on the part of the new owners, and he won’t be taking it lying down. “If they want to buy Cyrus, just make us an offer like anyone else would,” he says. “It’s not for sale, but everything has a price.”

Update: Apparently, it was all a “misunderstanding.”
