Looks like there is more bad news for Bucktown. First it was Spring, and now it looks like Café Matou, which had been serving fine French food on Milwaukee Ave. for over a decade, will close on on November 14. It’s not a total surprise. Chef Charlie Socher and Susan Socher were both featured in Time Out’s Save this Restaurant column last year. On their Facebook page, the couple explained that there were two reasons for closing: “First Charlie is pushing sixty and wants more time on the open roads of southwest Wisconsin rather than Chicago traffic, second with the recession sales have suffered significantly.” The two actually may open a new restaurant in Mineral Point, WI. Apparently a Thai restaurant is planning to take over the space in 2011. Still, very sad news. [Metromix]
