Finalists for the Good Food Awards were announced last week, and among the finalists in the category of charcuterie are Berkeley’s Café Rouge (for their smoked beef tongue) and Sonoma’s Girl and the Fig (for their coppa and their pimenton salami). 2011 is the first year the Good Food Awards will be presented, and it’s an event with a Slow Food Nation pedigree celebrating artisanal food products from across the country. The awards happen January 14 at a ceremony hosted by a duo of gastronomical grande dames, Ruth Reichl and Alice Waters. But tasting opportunities for all the products, in the categories of beer, charcuterie, cheese, coffee, chocolate, pickles, and preserves will extend into February.

The first tasting event will be at the Ferry Plaza Farmers’ market on January 15, which is likely to be monstrously crowded. But other events throughout the city will be happening during Good Food Month, between January 16 and February 20, with two categories featured each week, and beer getting a full week during the now annual S.F. Beer Week.
