Jean Denoyer and Hassan El Garrahy have given up on re-opening La Goulue at 20 East 63rd St. When the partners signed a lease on that location last year, we reported that the the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue across the street would prohibit a liquor license (licenses won’t be granted within 200 feet of a house of worship). The owners insisted the due diligence had been done and there would be no problem, but now they are shopping the lease to retailers and once again looking for the restaurant’s new home. But Denoyer and El Garrahy are not sitting on their hands during this period — they plan to open Bar Italia in the old Frederick’s space at 768 Madison Avenue by the end of the year, and they are opening a private membership club above Orsay called Entre Nous.
