Yesterday, potential Chicago mayors Rahm Emanuel and Carol Moseley Braun both ended up at the same soul food restaurant to meet with voters. They probably picked Izola’s in South Side neighborhood of Chatham more for its political connections than for its food. It was a favorite of former mayor Harold Washington, and a very large picture of him still hangs on the wall. Basically, it’s potential mayor bait. We suppose every city has a restaurant or two like these. What’s perhaps lost in all of this is that Izola’s serves some of the best fried chicken in the city. [Trib]
