No one is more accustomed to tight squeezes than Jehangir Mehta. If you’ve been to his dollhouse-size restaurant Graffiti, you know what we mean. With Mehtaphor, the pastry chef turned restaurateur expands into comparatively palatial 45-seat quarters on the ground floor of the Duane Street Hotel that he’s somehow loosely divided into a lounge, a bar, a dessert bar, and a dining room proper with a laptop-friendly communal table. As at Graffiti, the menu focuses on Asian-accented small plates, including garlic-cumin crab pizza, amped-up burgers, and shrimp kebabs. Breakfast and dinner launch October 6, with lunch, delivery, cooking classes, and “Gastro-Kids” (an after-school happy hour of sorts) to follow. Take a look at the menu below, and peer inside the space in our slideshow.
