It’s one thing when a wine-focused, casual trattoria like Barbacco does it, but the French Laundry? Yes, Jon Bonné reports that the French Laundry has decided to put their voluminous wine list onto iPads by the end of the year, in an effort to be more “eco-friendly.” The restaurant, you see, has to reprint the tome almost daily as inventories change, wasting scads of paper. Of course the list was digitized and put up on the web a while back for foochebags to swoon over, and the same company, Real Wine Lists, is handling this new roll-out. We know Keller’s always been forward-thinking and all, and call us philistines, but doesn’t it strike anyone else as a little unseemly in the museum-like environs of a Michelin three-star restaurant to be whipping out those shiny screens all over the room?
