We noticed while perusing the Health Department’s website that Hell’s Kitchen eatery Vynl (which Top Chef’s Dale Martin revamped last year) has closed owing to evidence of mice, the lack of a food-protection certificate, and more violations resulting in 53 demerit points. Zagat Buzz notices they’ve posted a sign saying the sewer line broke. Meanwhile, EV Grieve reports that East Village tiki favorite Otto’s Shrunken Head has closed because of a fire in the backroom; it expects to open the front room, at least, by the weekend. In happier tiki coverage, Hurricane Club’s beverage director, Richard Leach, talks with Fork in the Road and describes the restaurant, which opens an adjacent nightclub in December, is “a place where you can relax and have a good time.” Okay, then.
