Despite the New York heritage and an expected slam or two from the city’s Mexican food guard-dogs, Rosa Mexicano is going to add a second location in L.A. Planned to open in spring 2011, Eater spies this second Rosa reconquesta-ing the Borracho Cantina space on Sunset Blvd. Borracho blacked out after only nine months, which was fairly foreseeable given the lame, frat-friendly name and the demise of the superior Mexico Restaurante nearby. Rosa, which, like all the L.A. Live restaurants, brought a little Vegas-style flash to its L.A. outpost, should make a natural fit on The Strip, where celeb-owned restaurants and dramatic scale often stand out from the pack and Poquito Mas is king.
