The Marin Independent Journal noted this week the feud between Poggio Trattoria in Sausalito and its landlord, Casa Madrona Hotel. The Scoop published the full legal complaint by Poggio’s owner and longtime local restaurateur, Larry Mindel, who claims that Casa Madrona’s new ownership began trying to evict Poggio back in February on no grounds. “[Their] transparent purpose,” the complaint states, “was to wrest possession and control of a multi-million [dollar] restaurant for free.” Mindel built the restaurant in the hotel in 2003 — after having many successes in San Francisco with places like Ciao, Prego, and Il Fornaio — and he’s not having any of this “bullying.” Now, Casa Madrona’s lawyers claim they want a good relationship with their tenant, but the lawsuits proceed, with a pre-trial date now set for February.
