Back in August Grub Street mentioned that the South Philly Tap Room’s John Longacre was in the beginning stages of transforming the Wander Inn at 18th and Federal streets into the American Sardine Bar. Back then, as is the case now, bringing the long abandoned and dilapidated bar back from the dead, seems like a pretty good prospect for the up-and-coming neighborhood. But many in the community are opposed to the project, according to the community development organization, Point Breeze Pioneers. Yesterday it was urging those in favor of the forthcoming restaurant and bar to sign a petition for its approval.
Sardine Bar supporters were asked to email City Councilwoman Anna Verna, stating that they are in favor of Longacre and his company’s redevelopment efforts at 1800 Federal Street. The deadline was 9 a.m. today. Stay tuned; we will post updates as they become available.
