USA Today unveils a new listicle today featuring the nation’s best ice cream parlors, as chosen by a crew of magazine editors, bloggers, and tourism bureau chiefs. There’s only one pick for each state, and a lot of them are kind of kind of old-timey and rural. In New York, it’s Cayuga Lake Creamery way up by the Finger Lakes; for Vermont they had to go with Ben & Jerry’s; in Massachusetts it’s Kimball Farm in Westford; but in San Francisco, they skip old guard mainstays like Mitchell’s and go straight for four-month-old Mr. & Mrs. Miscellaneous. As for Hawaii, they actually don’t have much of an ice cream tradition, so they had to pick a shaved ice shop in the outskirts of Honolulu.
