That Restaurant With Zero Stars? It’s Morton’s

In less of a shocker than we were gearing up for, Michael Bauer bestows a whopping zero stars for food and one star overall to Chicago-spawned chain Morton’s, The Steakhouse. The Union Square tourist trap has prices that made Bauer blanch, a chandelier featuring the Chicago skyline, a rolling cart displaying plastic-wrapped steaks “and tomatoes that looked anemic, even at the height of tomato season.” They have the nerve to charge $10 for a baked potato as a side to a $50 steak, and Bauer writes, “If everything were perfect, we could at least have fodder for a debate. But the food was barely edible and the service was a comedy of errors.” Oh… but it gets better. “When I finally did start on my main course, I realized I needed to offer a second apology to any food I’ve criticized in the past year; by comparison, everything I’ve had at other places was French Laundry quality.” [Chron]
