While antiquated rules and ambiguous infractions have been doing their best to keep Philly’s nascent food truck scene from gaining meaningful traction, a handful of the area’s four-wheeled trailblazers will make their way to New York’s Governor’s Island this coming Saturday to represent the city in the Vendy awards, the Inquirer’s Michael Klein reports. Honest Tom’s Taco Shop, Birhrun on a Roll and Denise’s Soul Food Restaurant will be the first vendors from a city other than New York to participate in the event, which benefits the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center. GPTMC’s foodie-focused promotion, Philly Homegrown, coordinated with the Vendy’s to bring the trucks to the event.
