Saving Willie Mae’s

New Orleans soul-food restaurant Willie Mae’s Scotch House won a James Beard Award in 2005, only to be destroyed by Hurricane Katrina a few months later. The then-89-year-old Willie Mae decided to rebuild and reopen, so chefs and locals pulled together over three years and made it happen. And then we cried a little at our desk while watching Above the Line, Joe York’s documentary about the whole thing, which is available in its entirety online. [New Orleans Film Society]
