New Cocktails and Apps Place Moving In Behind Ferry Building

Many were sad about the New Year’s closure of the iconic Carnelian Room, at the top of the Bank of America tower. Now, the Scoop brings word that ex-Carnelian Room staffers are opening a lounge and small plates place in the World Trade Club, that slightly dated looking building that sits on the water’s edge behind the Ferry Building, to be called Carnelian By the Bay. Formerly, the space housed Gabiano’s restaurant, and the private World Trade Club took it over when they had to vacate a more elegant space they’d kept for decades in the Ferry Building itself. The 50-year-old business association finally folded in 2006.

Carnelian By the Bay, with a menu of primarily appetizers and small plates, is looking to soft-open by October, which suggests there won’t be too heavy-duty of a makeover, and much like the Carnelian Room they’re banking on a big events and weddings business with the large private dining areas upstairs.
