L.A.X. Welcomes Homegirl Cafe

Finally, a little good news amid the LAX concession struggle that has hinted at even more local political corruption, while denying travelers a new Nancy Silverton concept and airport outposts from businesses like LA Mill and Susan Feniger. Take Part reports that at least one local eatery, Homegirl Cafe, a refreshing and healthy Mexican restaurant that forms part of Father Gregory Boyle’s gang rehab program, Homeboy Industries, has been approved for expansion at L.A.X. as part of the contract granted to Florida-based Areas USA. Like many non-profit programs, Homeboy was hit hard this year by a drying-up of funds, which fortunately turned around with an L.A. County contract worth $1.1 million for tattoo removal and job-training. Homegirl’s entry into LAX is a victory for everyone who wants our shoddy airport dining options replaced by passion-driven local restaurants who hold food in higher esteem and benefit the city at large. Hats off to Homegirl!
