Gayle Pirie and John Clark: 7x7 talked to Foreign Cinema’s “power couple” about the sustained success of the Mission mainstay they took over 11 years ago. They’re their own biggest critics, proclaiming that “never ending scrutiny and a self-imposed evolution on a daily basis is the name of the game.” The interview goes on to touch upon the joys and hardships of running a restaurant with one’s spouse. [SPOILER ALERT]…It’s mostly joy, and they’re suuuuper cuuuute.

Michael Wild: Meanwhile, the Berkeleyside folks visited BayWolf’s 75-year-old owner in his home kitchen to find out his secret. Wild’s not surprisingly keen on straightforward cooking and warm service, and admits that without the help of one Alice Waters, things on Piedmont Ave. might have been different: “[She] was incredibly generous from the very beginning. If we ran out of wine glasses or linens, or needed truffles and couldn’t find any, she’d send stuff over…Without Alice Waters’ generosity, BayWolf would have gotten off to a much slower start.”
