Ike’s will stay open until midnight tonight, keeping several pesky neighbors awake and pissed off one last time, before finally succumbing to the court-ordered closure that they’ve skirted lo these many months. As Mission Local reports, employees received the word on Saturday, and the popular and embattled sandwich shop has thrown all politeness out the window the past few days, bringing back the music, and letting crowds congregate and hoot it up all over the sidewalk, to spite the neighbors. Owner Ike Shehadeh promises a “big party” tonight, and will be cleaning the place out tomorrow before vacating Wednesday morning.
One employee notes that Shehadeh had hoped to have a new location open in San Francisco before the 16th and Sanchez shop shut down, but that hasn’t come to be. Nonetheless, we expect that the savvy businessman — who has new locations down the peninsula in Redwood Shores and Palo Alto and two more planned in Santa Rosa and Burlingame — won’t disappear for long.
