Flying Fish’s Exit 1 Comes Out on Top of the Atlantic’s Oyster Stout Roundup

New Jersey’s Flying Fish recently scored an impressive endorsement for its Exit 1 Bayshore Oyster Stout from the Atlantic. In an article about oyster stouts, author Clay Risen sampled three examples of the cult beer style, which rarely finds its way into bottles these days. His selection included Porterhouse Brewing Co.’s Oyster Stout, Harpoon’s Island Creek, and Flying Fish’s Exit 1. Of the three beers he tasted Risen wrote, “Sadly, the hardest one to find is the only one I thought worth drinking. New Jersey’s Flying Fish … which is a shame, because it’s building a solid reputation in the beer world, particularly with its limited-release Exit Series.” Even sadder is the fact that the stout was a small batch brew created last October for the brewery’s ongoing Exit Series, which celebrates each exit of New Jersey’s famed turnpike with a limited edition beer, and few bottles of it exist now.
