It’s not Chicago’s first izakaya or “Japanese drinking establishment,” but right now Chizakaya is one of the only ones keeping the proud tradition alive. We were able to get a glimpse of the menu last week, but finally were lucky enough to get a look inside over the weekend to see how the restaurant’s mix of sake and whiskey was working with its massive menu. We also sampled some impressive dessert options, and got a chance to see chef and owner Harold Jurado smiling his way through service.
