David Lefevre, our favorite Downtown “seafood geek,” will depart Water Grill in mid-November to start his own restaurant. A press release from Water Grill tells us a national search for a new executive chef is currently underway while Lefevre hangs in to show them the ropes for a few more weeks. The departing toque follows the path of past Water Grill chefs like Michael Cimarusti and Allyson Thurber in striking out on his own, and with his talents running deep, this fish and shellfish expert and Charlie Trotter disciple should meet success. The departure follows six years of service for Lefevre at Water Grill, during which the chef nabbed second place in New Orlean’s Great American Seafood Cook-Off in 2005. Here’s hoping he stays close to L.A.
