Gianfranco Sorrentino, who took over the former Café des Artistes space in August, has picked a name in keeping with the current affinity for the naming structure “definite article, animal.” Like the Lion, the Lambs Club, and the Monkey Bar, it will be called the Leopard at des Artistes. Along with Vito Gnazzo, the chef at his midtown restaurant, Il Gattopardo (the Leopard in Italian), Sorrentino has hired a toque from Campania, whose name is hush-hush until he gives notice at his last position. The Howard Chandler Christy murals will still be on view, but the food will be Southern Italian when the room reopens in March.
