While we were sad to see Tizi Melloul close a few months ago, we were intrigued to see that the space was purchased by Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz of Boka Restaurant Group. Though initially rumored to be a steakhouse, they’ve now apparently changed their minds and according to Chicago Magazine will open a “chef-driven oyster bar.” Awesome, right? But then we got to thinking: What restaurant concept could be less chef-driven than an oyster bar? Most examples of the genre that we’ve visited have featured nothing more than burly men furiously cracking open oysters by the dozen. Of course, these are also the folks behind BOKA, Perennial, and The Girl & the Goat. They kind of know what they are doing. We imagine they’ll be doing a little more than just popping open oysters and spooning on the cocktail sauce (you know, not that there is anything wrong with that). No opening date beyond the chilling claim of “winter.” [Chicago Magazine]
