Grub Street broke the news last month that popular Berkeley pub Beckett’s (2217 Shattuck) might be turning into something more French, and now the Daily Cal offers confirmation. Beckett’s will close in five weeks, and come November Jean-Yves Duperret, who previously owned La Nouvelle Patisserie on Union Street in S.F., will open BEC Bistro, featuring “food ranging from French to Italian to Mediterranean to Californian.” The now former owners of Beckett’s own several other Irish bars, including Johnny Foley’s in S.F.
