Restaurant Owners Force Emeryville to Stifle Food Truck Scene

Emeryville, that little burg across the Bay where the daytime/worker population is more than double its tiny residential population, has seen a vibrant street food scene in the last few years due to its fairly lax regulation and low permitting costs. As SFoodie reports, at the insistence of brick and mortar businesses, the Emeryville City Council is forming a task force, to be announced at their meeting next week, in order to address a bullet-pointed list of regulatory measures including raising permit fees, and limiting the number of trucks that can operate at one time. This is bad news for Emeryville’s street-food-addicted workers, but it may spell good news for S.F. as trucks like Primo’s Parilla, which has so far stuck by Pixar most days, may need to seek new places to park and might cough up fees to the City of S.F. instead.
