Pizza! Pizza!

Arizmendi Bakery Arriving Very Soon in the Mission

Guess what, guys? There’s another new pizza place opening! Yes, as we’ve noted in our Fall Preview and earlier, fall in S.F. is all about pizza (and steak), and Arizmendi Bakery (1270 Valencia, next door to Heart) is the fifth* new place in three months. Eater spotted a sign on the door that says, “See you next week,” but Grub Street contacted the mothership and discovered a bit more. First off: the new Arizmendi will be a separately owned and operated business, not directly connected to the worker-owned cooperative with branches in Oakland, Emeryville, Berkeley and on 9th Avenue in S.F. The Arizmendi folks, though, are lending a hand in training the new team in pizza and bread-making, and it’s up to the trainers when the new staff is ready to open to the public.

Despite the sign, the opening may still be a few weeks off. In any event, we’ll point out here that Heart has a license to sell their wine for take-away, so even though they may frown on you bringing pizza into Heart, you should feel free to BYO wine into the new Arizmendi.

* Following Zero Zero, Tony’s Coal-Fired Pizza and Slice House, Una Pizza Napoletana, and Ragazza just last week.
