A version of Vanille De Patisserie, the French bakery and tea cafe with locations in Gardena, San Marino and Rowland Heights, is coming to Montana Ave. in Santa Monica. The owner, fittingly named Howard Chai, says that the new store will be open in about a month, but will have a different name that he’s withholding until it gets formally registered. In addition to pastries and beautiful cakes, Chai’s specialty is “espresso tea,” essentially tea that’s prepared in an espresso machine, plus teas in fruit and flower flavors. The theme of tea brewed through traditional coffee methods extends across the menus, with variations like the “teapuchino” standing in for the famous frozen drink.
