XIX, the lounge below Travertine (which just scored Bungalow 8’s old doorman, Disco!), isn’t the only plush subterranean lounge new on the scene. Over in the meatpacking district, in the former Bijoux digs, the folks behind Bagatelle and Pacri in St. Barts are ready to open Tzigan in the bowels of the building that houses their recently opened La Gazzetta (an Italian café and market) and soon Villa Pacri, their forthcoming restaurant with Shea Gallante Fabio Trabocchi. As you know, you can store a bottle of fine cognac at Tzigan for $500 per month (with a six-month minimum), but will you really want to spend that much time here after it opens early next month? If you’re a dance head, the bumping sound system shouldn’t hurt. Check out our slideshow and decide for yourself.
Tzigan, 55 Gansevoort St., nr. Greenwich St.; 212-924-5559
Correction: The original version of this post mistakenly identified Shea Gallante as the chef. Gallante will actually be the chef at Ciano.
