No Need to Kick Your Coffee Habit for Locavorism

For the last five years, the Green City Market’s Locavore Challenge has been a way for the usually obliviously omnivorous to spend a few weeks focuing their consumption on locally grown and produced foods (and, in theory, come to a greater appreciation of the benefits of supporting local farmers). The 2010 program runs from September 8 through 22, but Dave Rand, Farm Forager for the City of Chicago and Green City Market (yes, that’s a real title) tells us that the idea is to “get people eating locally not just for the two weeks of the Locavore Challenge, but throughout the year.” Before you start piling up excuses, rest assured that there are loopholes to the locavorism: non-regional coffee (among other things) is allowed.
