The good news keeps pouring in for Stephanie Izard’s The Girl & the Goat, as Mike Sula notes the restaurant is “putting out some of my most memorable dishes of the year.” Though he wondered whether she could translate TV stardom into a successful, ultimately the hype is deserved: “This is my favorite new opening this year, only in small part because it’s one of those rare instances where the hoopla is entirely justified.” [Chicago Reader, first item]

Pat Bruno had a hard time saying anything negative about Markethouse, the restaurant in The Doubletree. The cream-less creamed corn soup was “elegantly delicious” and the baby arugula and shaved fennel salad was “impressive in every way.” Best was the half-chicken which was mopped with a honeycomb-cayenne mixture, which “added immensely to the enjoyment.” [Sun-Times]

Though Chikurin Sushi & Asian Cuisine has lots of duds, Anne Spiselman found a few real surprises on the menu. Stick with the Chinese dishes, as the ma po tofu was “as good as most versions I’ve had in Chinatown,” and the Mongolian beef “surpassed many.” The sushi, “on the other hand, is nothing special.” [Chicago Reader, second item]
