Open Now and Soon in Berkeley: Slow and Zut!

Slow, the new self-service restaurant (1966 University Avenue, Berkeley) that we mentioned earlier this summer, is now open for business. Chef Kyle Anderson is a Nebraska native who’s worked under Charlie Trotter and Daniel Boulud’s tutelage, and he committed to keeping his seasonal, Slow Food-faithful menu items very affordable — in the $6 to $12 range. As he tells Berkeleyside, “The low prices are certainly an important part of what Slow has to offer. I want the quality and sophistication of what I serve to be accessible to lots of people.”

Also opening soon, on August 31 to be exact, is Zut! (pronounced zoot), in the former Eccolo space at 1820 Fourth Street.

As the Scoop reports, despite the French name, the restaurant will serve a seasonal, pan-Mediterranean menu from chef Jim Wimborough, formerly of Home and Kokkari.
