Guess what? Chicago has amazing cheap eats! Wait, didn’t we already know that? Anyway, that doesn’t stop Bon Appetit from swooping in and heralding our city as the “nation’s first choice for inexpensive dining.” The picks are surprisingly deserving with Frank ‘n’ Dawgs, Urban Belly, and Edzo’s Burger Shop all getting a shout out. There is also some serious Rick Bayless love here: “What Emeril is to New Orleans and Tom Colicchio is to New York, Rick Bayless is to Chicago.” We only had issues with a couple of picks.
Danny’s is a fine bar in Bucktown, but it’s been open for years, and doesn’t serve food. What is it doing here? Also, they picked Takashi in Bucktown for the restaurant’s Sunday soup special. Of course, there is a Noodles by Takashi in the Macy’s in the Loop that serves relatively affordable soup all the time.
