Pizza chain The Upper Crust was ordered to pay $341,000 last year to 121 workers as back pay for uncompensated overtime. Now they’re being sued by two former cooks who claim that the restaurant forced them to give the money back and then fired them, reports the Globe. According to the suit, management “began deducting hundreds of dollars from [the] weekly checks” of the two men, both of whom had received restitution payments from the earlier court case, and that they were fired as soon as the “debt” was paid off. An owner of the chain tells the Globe that the plaintiffs are salaried employees who do not qualify for overtime, and that they’re “trying to figure out a way to extort money from our business.” [Globe]
